Tulbagh Country House - Accommodation in
Western Cape, this
200-year-old B&B in the heart of the historic village of Tulbagh
looked too inviting to drive past without taking a peek. Built in 1809
and still retaining many of its original features, the house is the
epitome of classic Cape Dutch living and has been beautifully restored
to its former glory by her owner Ginny.
Antiques
and original artwork catch the eye at every glance and guests are free
to roam and admire.

Seated on her twin gargantuan couches, or around her dining table,
Ginny will happily impart her extensive knowledge of Church Street’s
history, thereby completing the picture of the historic charm of the
Witzenberg Valley. She treats her guests as friends and they naturally
treat her likewise. In her guest book, Ginny has appraisals galore,
markedly for her breakfasts, a table spread with antique crockery,
silver cutlery and the feast itself: ‘For those who follow, beware
Ginny’s breakfasts – they are wonderful’ and such like.
You
cross the road to find the self-catering
cottage. Simple and charming, this cottage, which was formerly a wagon
shed, is kitted out with board games, reference books and a large
French-cricket-sized garden that stretches to the river. The
authenticity of Ginny’s hospitality makes a stay here a real
treat. There is plenty to do in the area too.
