Three
Tree Hill Lodge an Accommodation near Spionkop Nature Reserve in
KwaZulu-Natal
is the comfortable way to experience the Boer War and one of its most
famous battlefields, Spionkop Hill. The lodge sits in complete
isolation on an opposing hill with views that flood out across the
green valley and down to the Spionkop Nature Reserve. You can often
see giraffe, zebra, rhino etc from the stoep, although at some
distance.

There
is an all-together feeling at Three Tree Hill. Meals are eaten at one
table and the atmosphere is involving on the tours. Andrew knows his
potatoes when it comes to the history too - his Boer War tours are
engrossing. Meanwhile, back at the lodge you can take time out from
all the action in very private cottages, with their own unobserved
verandah looking onto the park. They are simple in design with orange
oxide floors, hand-embroidered covers on beds - the aloe is the house
symbol - wooden wash stands in bathrooms, 100 per cent cotton sheets,
down duvets for crisp winter nights. The emphasis is on simple good
quality, rather than elaborate decoration.
The pièce de résistance
at the lodge was the swimming pool, reached through a gauntlet of
dalek-like aloes and perched precariously on the hip of the valley.
Horse riding from the lodge is now available to guests and building on
the new library has begun.
So if your looking for a place where art, beauty and time away are
important then Three Tree Hill Lodge is worth a second look.
