The Oystercatcher's Haven - Accommodation in  Paternoster, Western Cape. The Cape Dutch house sits on the fringes of the Cape Columbine Nature Reserve, a spectacular, fynbos-covered, hand-shaped headland, bearing its lighthouse aloft like a nine-million-watt jewel. All along the coast and a mere 40m in front of the house knobby fingers of grey and black granite merge into the sea and around the rocks there are secret white sandy coves where the dolphins come throughout the year.

It is quite simply beautiful and you can assure your self that the Oystercatcher is a haven by anyone's standards. Heave yourself out of that plunge-pool, off the rocks and away from the view (available from your bed) and head inside the house.

The interior, with its white walls, untreated timbers and reed-and-pole ceilings, is intentionally blank-yet-rustic to showcase some exquisite pieces, such as a four-foot-high Angolan drum, some Malinese sinaba paintings (you'll have to come and see them if you don't know what they are), Persian rugs, art-deco couches, courtyards.... Just about everything is a hook for an eager eye. Bedrooms are bliss.  Want hurricane-lamp-lit suppers on the beach? Walk this way.enjoy magnificent sunsets and whale & dolphin spotting.
