The about 365 metre deep hole is wide and deep enough to comfprtably take two Empire State buildings on to of one onother. Between 1871 and 1914, some 25 million tons of earth was removed to leave the gaping hole that once yielded some 14,5 million carats of diamonds. Other attractions include the Vaalbos National Park with its threatened black rhino and three different habitats - Kalahari thornveld, Karoo and grassveld (savannah).
