The Artist's House - Accommodation in Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa
The
Artist's House - Accommodation in Hermanus,
Western Cape meanders languidly like a river through the
Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) Valley near Hermanus and overlooks a
peaceful lake. The rooms are framed by the verdant fold of mountains
and wide skies and stretch single-file across the Indigenous Fynbos
(flora) and the only sounds are of local birds and insects in their
natural habitat. In the far distance the view is punctuated by farm
houses. The Artist's House is an ideal retreat for a large family or
group of friends on holiday or Corporate groups needing uninterrupted
time for brainstorming.

Hermanus
offers great beaches, mountain walks and the craft market is famous
for its art. Hermanus also has many fine restaurants and is a wine
lovers paradise with nearby wine farms offering wine tasting. Whales
can be seen from as close as five metres from places, just about
guaranteed on a daily basis, during September and October. The world's
only whale crier, Wilson Salukazana, blows his kelp horn, alerting
visitors to the whereabouts of the whales. Hermanus provides excellent
sightings from its rocky cliffs and coastal paths. Other contributory
factors to the success of the town is the natural scenic beauty, the
mild-climate, the range of outdoor activities available and the close
proximity to Cape Town.
From
fishing, diving, whale watching and relaxing on pristine beaches to
exploring the mountainside with its diverse unspoilt coastal Fynbos
and abundant bird life, or shopping, wining & dining, the charming
village of Hermanus offers something for everyone. The Whale Festival
is held to celebrate the arrival of the whales that come to Walker Bay
to mate and calve. For ten days each September and October, Hermanus
is transformed as thousands of visitors from all over the country
arrive to enjoy the arts and experience of the Whale Festival. Many
artists have established themselves in Hermanus and surrounding
villages of Onrus and Vermont.
