Tangala Safari Camp - Accommodation
in Limpopo Province, Thornybush Nature Reserve, South Africa
"Just
nip around the rhino – he’s somewhere up ahead – and we’ll see you
back at the lodge in a few minutes." Such was introduction to
Tangala as you drove past the other guests on
their evening game drive. Tangala Safari Camp Accommodation
in Limpopo Province is situated in the middle of the Thornybush
Game Reserve, the camp offers a true bush experience and Eugene is its
king. A cross between Errol Flynn and David Attenborough, he’s a mine
of swash-buckling wisdom who knows pretty much every darn thing about
the wild. He spent years working for the Department of Nature
Conservation before turning the Potgieter family holiday home into a
safari camp.

There
is a kind of rugged luxury here. No wooden masks adorn the walls, but
sherry greets your evening return and drums call you to eat. There is
no electricity to remind you of home, but the thatched huts provide
ample delights: voluminous mozzie nets, hurricane lamps, thick towels
and a choir of cicadas combine to lull you to sleep. Game viewing is
generally excellent – If your lucky enough
you see all the ‘Big 5’ inside 24 hours - and
not necessarily that far away.
Two
game drives in open vehicles include coffee, tea and snacks in the
morning while a romantic sundowner interrupts the night drives. Game
viewing at Tangala is of high standard and compare with the best in
the world. Guests can expect to see lion, elephant, leopard, rhino,
cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and other general game on game
drives. As well as exciting bird watching. Wildlife activities here
enable guests to 'touch, taste and smell' Africa. Your day begins with
a game drive of approximately four hours, accompanied by a qualified
ranger and tracker. Guests not only get close to Big Game but also
learn to identify birds and trees, taste edible fruit, follow in the
footsteps of animals great and small and learn about local bush lore.
Become one with the bush as you track silently after the spoor of
wildlife during game drives. The night game viewing is an experience
of its own. Nocturnal sightings might include bush babies, the elusive
genet, or predators hunting and stalking their prey.
