Swellendam,
one of the oldest towns of South Africa, has much to offer to
visitors: The charming historical buildings, the famous open-air
Drostdy Museum, a choice of excellent restaurants, shops and
art-and-craft projects are just a few examples of the tourist
attractions. Also, the Marloth Nature Reserve and the Bontebok
National Park are a ‘must' to explore. The Swellendam Walking Trail is 74
kilometres long. The Swellendam golfcourse
is nested at the feet of the Langeberg mountains. The almost private
golfcourse offers just 9 holes, but the also experienced golfer would
like the course. A none-affilated fee of R 80 (2005), almost no waiting /
reservation times makes the course very attractive. You
can also explore the surroundings by canoe. There are canoe routes on the
Breede River and the Buffeljags River, 9 km from Swellendam. There
are several horse riding trails (short trails or trails for several days)
through the beautiful surroundings of Swellendam. For non-experienced, as
well as for professional horse riders.
