Swartberg Hotel - Accommodation in
Prince Albert, Western Cape, South Africa
The
Swartberg Hotel - Accommodation in
Prince Albert, Western Cape is a haven of character and atmosphere
from the stylish rooms in the hotel and the cottage accommodation in
the restful garden to the true South African delights of the dining
room. The Swartberg Hotel, a magnificent Victorian-style hotel
with tasteful original decor, has comfortable and stylish decorated
rooms and spacious cottages set in the garden. In summer lunches and
teas are served on the verandah, at the swimming pool or in the
air-conditioned coffee shop. Evening meals are served in the gracious
dining-room. During a chilly Karoo winter's evening, when the
mountains are capped with snow, log fires blaze in the lounge, dining
room and ladies bar.

The
Swartberg Hotel has been declared as a National Historical building,
as well as several other buildings in Prince Albert. Wander past these
gems of bygone years to visit our local Fransie Pienaar Museum to view
relics of dinosaurs that eons ago roamed the Karoo. The hotel is only
40km from the Cango Caves via the historic Swartberg pass. An
alternative route to Oudtshoorn and it's ostrich farms is through
Meringspoort, an incredible passageway of towering red cliffs, which
crosses the Groot River 25 times. Bird-lovers and stargazers are
specially catered for in the district of Prince Albert. It is heaven
for mountain bikers and hikers, with tough all-day hikes, Sunday
afternoon strolls and walks to picnic spots. A favourite tourism
attraction is The Hell, a secluded valley in Gamkaskloof in the heart
of the Swartberg mountains. This is also the venue of the popular
mountain bike race, To Hell and Back.
