Springfontein House - Accommodation in Springfontein, Free State, South Africa

Springfontein House Accommodation in Springfontein, Free State, South AfricaSpringfontein House Accommodation in Springfontein, Free State. Those with a taste for fine living will find a kindred spirit in Graeme, a man whose love of house and garden, countryside, good company, food and wine now sets the tone at Springfontein House. He was once a gallery owner in Johannesburg – a far cry from his first, 26-year career as a London stockbroker – and his personal art collection includes a rather racy Battiss, an inky Sekoto and other originals by South African artists, both established and emerging.

Springfontein House Accommodation in Springfontein, Free State, South AfricaAfrican rugs, powdery sofas, bowls of dried rose petals and side tables proffering porcelain complete the sandy-coloured sitting room. Through glass doors is a slate-floored, frond-filled sunroom and an incarnadine dining room, with Georgian tables and silver candelabras. In the bedrooms the curtains are silk, the towels soft and the comfy beds have crisp linen, plump pillows and mohair throws. Outside, white walls dazzle and creepers climb above the stoep; there’s a bricked patio and colourful flower-beds, a pool and a series of fishponds. But the reason you come here is to be looked after, and arriving from the biscuity veld, you’ll feel lucky indeed. Graeme will explain about biking, hiking, rare bird-watching, fishing, sailing on Gariep Dam.
