Guest Farm - Accommodation in
Heidelberg, Western Cape is a working ostrich farm … close to
the N2 and halfway between Cape Town and Knysna. This makes
the ideal stop over. A friendly family farm, an education for city
slickers, a place to relax and enjoy beautiful mountain views as the
farm is situated on high open rolling terrain. The rooms and cottages
have all you need to feel pampered: Honesty Bar, Tea and Coffee making
facilities, En suite bathrooms with strong showers, Heater, Ceiling
fan, Electric blankets, Ostrich leather slippers and gown, Hair dryers
and good South African Port (on the house!) to enjoy on the patio as
a sundowner.

The
rooms and cottages are named after birds commonly found in the area …
which is a real birders’s paradise. Ossie the Ostrich. The biggest bird in the world.
This room is inside the main
homestead with a private entrance that opens onto spectacular
Langeberg Mountain views. It have a double bed and full bathroom
(shower and bath). It can be interleding with the Blue Crane room for
a family suite. Blue Crane South
Africa’s elegant National bird flocks of up to a 100 can sometimes
be seen. This room is also in the main homestead with a wheelchair
friendly bathroom (shower) and twin beds. It can be interleding with
Ossie the Ostrich room for a family suite. The two cottages each have a
living area, main bedroom and a bathroom with a shower. They can serve
as self-catering cottages. It sleeps maximum four (two adults and two
children who sleeps on a sleeper couch in the living area). A Dover
stove in the living area will keep you warm and cosy in the winter
months.
Skeiding
is a 1200 hectare working far. They farm 1500 free range Ostriches, 1500
Dohne Merino sheep, 200 Boerbok (domesticated goats), a small herd of
Nguni beef cattle ( a very hardy African breed) and plant 500
hectare of Canola, Wheat, Barley, Coriander and Peas. Guests are
involved are far as possible in the workings of the farm. This could
mean watching the ostriches being supplement fed in the morning at
07:30 (before breakfast) on a
“hands on“ farmtour with Neels. You might even be lucky and see our
sheepdogs Flink (an Australian Kelpie) and Fiela (a Border Kollie) in
action, herding some sheep or ostriches. Having grown up in the area,
Neels offer a lot of information on the vegetation and other
interesting points that make the area so fascinating. Relax at our salt
water swimmingpool. Take a leisure walk on the farm (maybe you will be
so lucky to see the ostriches’s “love dance”) enjoying the abundant
bird life and do not miss the beautifull sunsets on the “stoep”.

activities in the area can be arranged for you,like
golf,horse riding to mention some !.
