To
enhance the many facets of African simplicity, the guesthouse is filled
with comfortable furnishings and everyday artefacts, including unique
traditional baskets with intricate patterns, made from grass, reeds and
leaves of the Ilala palm. We offer 5 double rooms with twin beds, private
entrance each with own bathroom plus shower. Colour T.V., safety deposit
box, heater, hairdryers, overhead fan, tea and coffee making facilities
and alarm clocks. A sumptuous Little Karoo breakfast is served, either in
the dining room or on the patio, overlooking the pool.
The Klein Karoo is a semi-desert area wedged between the
coastal mountains that separate it from the Garden Route and the
impressive Swartberg mountain range in the north. The region is watered
by a number of streams that flow down from the mountains to join the
Olifants River. Grapes grow here (Calitzdorp produces some of the
country's best port), as does Lucerne (alfalfa), which is why farmers
were able to successfully introduce the ostrich to farming practices -
Lucerne is a favourite food of the ostrich. Besides attempting an ostrich
ride, there is no shortage of things to do in this locality. Go on a
tour through the fascinating Cango Caves of stalagmites and
stalactites, or visit Cheetahland, a place where you can stroke the
fastest animal on earth while it purrs like a tractor. Oudtshoorn is
surrounded by some spectacular mountain passes, such as the Swartberg
Pass - arguably the most sensational in South Africa. The 24 kilometre
road has some awesome sheer drops and hair pin bends leading down to
great echoing canyons below.
