Selborne
Golf Course, 18 holes, par 72, 6040 metres. Selborne Golf Course -
described as the Augusta of South Africa - opened in 1987. The terrain
is hilly and the fairways wind through natural coastal bush and
forest. There are large greens with subtle undulating slopes and fast
and true putting surfaces. Attractive water features are found on 15
of the holes and there are large splash-type bunkers around most of
the greens. The rough is invariably cut fairly short because of the
proximity of trees and thick bush. The course has practise facilities
and offers tuition from resident PGA golf professional Trevor Wilkes.
Recreational attractions include swimming (Selborne’s private beach
club is just minutes away by shuttle bus), tennis, fishing, walks,
bird and small-game viewing, scuba diving, and deep sea and rock line
fishing.
