Sani
Valley offers a complete customised service where you can chose from an
array of activities and facilities. We are small and exclusive enough to
be able to adapt our offer to your very own needs and interests. Tell us
exactly how you imagine your holiday at Sani Valley, and we will
endeavour to exceed your expectations. The accommodation includes full
private kitchens, lounges and dinner tables allowing you to chose to cook
your own meals and have someone clean and wash, or select special dishes
from our menu which will be bought to your lodge on your request. This
new luxury full or semi-catering Drakensberg accommodation concept gives
you a private and highly personal experience with unobtrusive lodge
services. You are left to relax in your exclusive private home which is
serviced daily. You may choose a cook to prepare your meals for you, or,
if you wish, you can choose to cook your own meals using your chalet’s
modern kitchens. All the lodges offer a spacious and open lounge/dining
room/fully equipped kitchen. Whether in your bedroom or in the lounge,
you simply have to step out through the large sliding door onto the
private verandah to get a panoramic view of the lake and the spectacular
Drakensberg mountains. In winter you will particularly enjoy the comfort
of cosy fireplace in the lounge, electric blankets, overhead heating
along with heated towel rails in the bathrooms. Yet, despite all this
comfort Sani Valley retains a true and relax country atmosphere. With
total privacy in mind, every lodge has been individually decorated.
Luxury crisp fabrics, hand-embroideries, cotton linen, hand-painted
lithographs and marble finishes are just a few of the details that
complement the beauty and the tranquility of the area.
Fisherman,
you will enjoy both our main dam and our trophy dam! The main 260 acre
lake is well stocked with trout and offers excellent fly-fishing
opportunities with brown and rainbow trout ranging from 1 pound to 12
pounds. Hikers will be fascinated by the magnificent trails hugging the
contour of the slopes. You will also come back for the spectacular routes
zigzagging to the top of the escarpment. Areas outside our boundary
fences are either privately owned or controlled by the KwaZulu Natal
Parks Board. Should one wish to hike in these areas permission is
required from the necessary authorities. Hiking permits from the KwaZulu
Natal Parks Board can be obtained from the nearby Sani Pass Hotel. Peter
and Mitzi Bateman will only be too pleased to assist with this. Horse
Riding, At this stage riding is limited but is available by making
arrangements with Mkhize, the experienced Zulu game ranger and tracker.
Let us know if any members of your party are not experienced riders;
Mkhize will train them before taking them on a riding excursion. Bushman
Paintings. The Bushmen hunter-gatherers - also called San people - lived
on these mountain slopes from about 8000 years ago until the mid 1800's,
and left behind them a priceless legacy of rock art in the caves and
overhangs. These ancient paintings tell story of their stone age culture,
rituals and spiritual beliefs. Hikers from Sani Valley Lodge can take an
easy trip or undertake a full day-excursion to go and discover the San
rock paintings.
