Hermanus
is situated on a coastal strip between two nature reserves: The
majestic mountains in the north and Walker Bay on the Atlantic Ocean
in the south. This South African holiday village offers the world's
finest land-based whale viewing, lush golf courses, pristine beaches
and unparalleled natural beauty. The mountains framing the village are
home to the Fernkloof Nature Reserve where Fynbos, the indigenous
flora to the Cape, can be seen in all its glory. In this reserve there
are marked hiking trails for the fit and not so fit, a cycle track and
some great picnic spots. Hermanus is a golfer's delight. The Hermanus
Golf Club is situated close to the town centre, a few kilometers
outside town is the world class Arabella golf course and the
neighbouring towns of Kleinmond and Kleinbaai each sport a golf
course. Hermanus is part of the Walker Bay nature reserve where the
Southern Right Whales come to mate and calve between July and November
each year. Whales can be sighted while strolling along the cliff paths
or lying on one of the several beautiful beaches. Boat-based whale
watching excursions give an even closer look at the whales.
