Thoughtful
touches and constant attention to detail ensures a special romantic stay.
The warmth and hospitality is enhanced by an abundance of fresh flowers
throughout. Enjoy the song of the indigenous birds, the sweet fragrance
of delicate roses blooming in abundance around you and the warm sunshine
by the side of our crystal clear pool. The farm dam surrounded by
willows and hanging bird nests, with water slide, and raft, ensures that
the youngsters enjoy themselves as well.
Oue
Werf is within walking distance from the Cango Ostrich Farm
and only 12 Km from Oudtshoorn passing the Kango wildlife
ranch. To the South three different passes lead to
George, Mossel Bay, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. Oue Werf is a real
paradise for birdwatchers, well situated to explore the most beautiful
places in the region of Klein Karoo and Garden Route. An aerial view of
the Oue Werf Country Guesthouse in the Schoemanshoek Valley. Oue
Werf was built in 1857 by the great grandfather of the Spies family.
For five generations the Spies family have farmed with tobacco, fruit and
Ostriches in this Schoemanshoek valley. With great care and dedication
Marius and Annelie have creatively converted the homestead into five
en-suite bedrooms. The old wagon house is now the cosy dining room with
an old world charm. The surroundings set in a peaceful garden matched by
the warm hospitality of the hosts makes Oue Werf a haven of charm and
elegance and a visit of cherished memories. Only
15km north of Oue Werf Guesthouse, lies the world famous Cango Caves. These enormous
caves take you to an underworld only imaginable. Only a very small part
of the cave system is open to the public, but for the curious, a video
will take you on an underground journey where very few humans have set
foot. Take a drive further towards the north and reach the magnificent
Swartberg Mountain Range, after only a few kilometres. In 1886, the
renowned road builder, Thomas Bain, took on the enormous task of
constructing a pass over the 1500m high mountains. Today, the Swartberg
Pass has been declared a national monument, and remains as Bains and his
team left it over a hundred years ago. At the top of the pass, an awesome
view awaits you: hundreds of kilometers of Great Karoo, and a winding
road that takes you down to one of the undiscovered secrets of our
valley, the quaint little town of Prins Albert.
