And meals are a culinary delight. The view from the Lodge is of open plains across the Mohlabetsi valley, with the Drakensberg Escarpment in the background. This panorama is enjoyed from a wonderful thatched lapa and bar where one may watch animals come to drink at a pan in the foreground. Mohlabetsi Lodge's swimming pool is perfectly placed and, you are bound to use it after a day in the African heat.

7 Rondavels

Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge accommodates guests in 2 camps, each with their own character. The Safari Lodge is the main camp, with 7 rondavels (hut houses) under thatch and en suite facilities. The decor is Afro-ethnic and the rooms are set under shady trees with no fences around the camp. The rooms are comfortably appointed and are of a 3 star Satour standard. In addition, there is a large trophy room and lounge, with many interesting artefacts and wood carvings, an outdoor bar and lounge with wonderful views over the bushveld and a well frequented waterhole, an indoor dining room and a boma. There is also a comfortable guide's room, en suite. The Lodge also offers a sparkling swimming pool. In the boma (grass house), one may enjoy campfire dinners under African skies. Superb meals are created beside the fire and served in a cosy ambiance, while the night sounds of Jackal and Lion add to the bush experience.

Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge is situated in the vast Balule Nature Reserve, adjacent to the Kruger Park, home to the Big Five and world famous for its abundance of animal and birdlife. Game drives are conducted in open 4x4 vehicles and the tour guides have an encyclopaedic knowledge of the fauna in the region. There are optional tours to the Kruger National Park in comfortable VW microbuses. Setting off before dawn, you enter via Orpen or Phalaborwa Gates at first light. You search for the elusive big cats and other game before enjoying a delicious breakfast at one of the many picnic spots. Thereafter, you traverse large sections of this wonderful reserve, before taking Lunch. After a rewarding day filled with happy memories and wonderful pictures, you make your way back to the lodge. Another option is a Panorama Tour, into the scenic Drakensberg Mountains. You visit the magnificent Blyde Canyon, Bourkes Luck Potholes, God's Window, as well as the many spectacular waterfalls. Lunch is enjoyed at Pilgrim's Rest, an historical gold rush village, before you descend down the awesome Abel Erasmus Pass and back to the Lowveld again.
