Set
in the magnificent Maluti Mountains of the Eastern Free State
Highlands is Maluti Lodge. Overlooking the quaint village of Clarens,
guests experience the rare pleasure of the true country quality and
hospitality, well known to this secluded enclave of the Malutis. The
Clarens farmers grow some of the country's finest fresh produce - and
the herb garden on the premises allows the chefs to prepare
magnificent robust country fare which has become legendary in the
area. In the winter months, venison, warthog, guineafowl, wild duck
and pheasant make an exciting addition to the menu.

The
Maluti Mountain Lodge offers accommodation in 10 standard rooms, 6
luxury rooms, 4 thatched rondawels and 4 luxury suites for families -
all en suite. The honeymoon suite is a really special place for that
al important and romantic night. All the rooms have M-Net, tea and
coffee making facilities, with heaters and electric blankets for the
cold winter months. Balconies on each of the rooms provide the
opportunity to relax at sundown in the summer months. Most of the
rooms have breathtaking views of the mountains – and the lodge's
garden is the perfect place for children to explore and play in. The
swimming pool and lapa offer a wonderful setting for braais and family
fun.
The
two restaurants at the lodge, the Duck & Hound and the Highland
Grill, offer quests a choice of dinning venues, children's are catered
for with a special childrens menu. There is a pub lunch menu available in
both restaurants for lighter meals. Sundowners in the Duck & Hound
courtyard and on the balcony overlooking the Maluti Mountains are a must
for everyone. The immediate area offers a wide range of outdoor and
sporting facilities such as golf, tennis, squash, bowls, hiking,
horseback riding, trout fishing, clay pigeon shooting, 4x4 trails, grey
wing and bird hunting in season. There are various arts and craft shops
in the village. The sites of dinosaur remains and bushman paintings are
also places of interest well worth a visit.
