Lotheni
is a magnificent mountain haven renowned for its scenery and atmospheric
camp. The main activities are hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing and
adventure. The Emadundwini Trail (12 kilometres) is highly recommended
and other hikes include the Eagle, Falls, Canyon and Jacobs Ladder
Trails. The Gelib Tree Mountain Bike Trail (8 kilometres) winds past
breathtaking views with the historic Gelib Tree en-route. Swimming in the
Lotheni River is safe unless it is in flood. 16 kilometres of the Lotheni
River is stocked with brown trout for the enjoyment of fly-fishermen. The
bird list for the area has 172-recorded species.

Lotheni
is a self-catering facility and features two six-bed chalets; 1 double
bed chalet and 11 with 3 single beds. The accommodation includes cutlery,
crockery and bedding, a deep-freeze unit and a gas stove in the camp
kitchen is also available.
Simes Rustic Cottage is situated next to a small trout dam, stocked for
use the exclusive use of Simes Cottage guests. It includes a bathroom,
and an equipped kitchen. Guests must supply bedding, gas lamps and
torches. Mountain View hut faces the mountains and the river. It
accommodates three people and has a kitchen with a small deep-freeze,
shower and toilet. Cutlery and crockery are supplied but you must provide
your own linen and towells.
Noted
for its magnificent scenery and beautiful camp, Lotheni is situated in a
remote section of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park. Many delightful
walking trails are available to suit all ages.
For spectacular views of the Drakensberg , the Emadundwini Trail , a 11.8
km circular route crossing a number of small streams and traveling up a
steep incline is recommended.
Other trails such as the Eagle, Falls, Canyon, Jacobs Ladder and the
historically interesting Gelib Tree are also very rewarding.
Birdwatching with a bird list of 172 species , mountain biking and trout
fishing are popular activities. 16kms of the Lotheni river is available
for fly fishermen and stocked with brown trout.
Although chilly , swimming in the Lotheni river is safe unless it is in
flood , and there is a very good swimming spot approximately 1km below
the camp.
