Lesheba
Wilderness - Accommodation in Louis Richards, Limpopo
Province. In the far Northern Province
of South Africa a mountain rises out of the earth like an island from
the bushveld flatlands. The Soutpansberg, Southern Africa's last great
mountains before the northern ranges begin. Lesheba Wilderness
epitomises the essence of Africa. It is a farm filled with wonder;
Bushman paintings, indigenous vegetation and wildlife. Lesheba is best
explored on foot where we offer you the unique opportunity to walk
unguided amongst the animals which include the mighty white rhino,
giraffe, zebra, sable and the elusive leopard plus kudu, eland,
wildebeest and many of the smaller species; red duiker, aardvark,
pangolins, porcupines and civets.

The
Venda Village: Internationally acclaimed Venda artist, Noria Mabasa, has
created the extraordinary Venda Village. It is a living gallery of her
works and overlooks Duluni Valley. There is a luxury outdoor bathroom
with sculpted figureheads and a view over the plains below and a thatched
lapa with a lounge, diningroom and kitchen. This camp sleeps 9. Hamasha:
This thatched camp has four en-suite bedrooms offering magnificent views
of Hamasha gorge. It has a lounge and fireplace for cosy evenings with french
doors opening out onto a braai area. After a long hike, there's nothing
more refreshing than enjoying one of the outdoor showers.
Lesheba,
which stretches along the very top of the mountain, is often lost in
morning mist. The high moisture content has resulted in rich and
varied vegetation with 335 indigenous tree species and the highest
concentration of Warburgia Salutaris, the Pepperbark tree, in the
world. This is one of Africa's most well utilised trees for medicinal
purposes and is on the list of protected species. The wilderness is a
Natural Heritage Site and part of the Western Soutpansberg
Conservancy. Lesheba is situated in a malaria free belt. We offer game
viewing and night drives. Guided walks to Bushman painting sites.
Magical rock pools in the summertime. Luxury champagne picnic brunches
out in the bush. Warm hospitality and many small touches. A beautiful
natural rock swimming pool which rests on the side of the mountain at
the main house offering panoramic views of the mountains and valley
below. Game drives are available, but the best way to experience all
the farm has to offer, is on foot. There are 10 marked trails from 2
to 5 hours walking time, with paths meandering through lush bush, over
plains and down spectacular gorges, where in summer you can swim in
clear rock pools.
