There’s
a whole lot more in the game reserve now and with rhino, cheetah and
elephants as new additions the ‘big five’ is almost complete. Game
drives and river cruises for birding and fishing are a must and if you
are staying for a few nights a bush dinner is also recommended. Meals
are generally served in the Dutch settler’s house and remain intimate,
convivial and delicious, thanks to Rosemary. For their accommodation,
guests can either choose the Victorian mansion with its antique
furniture, antique full-sized billiard table and antique photographs
of Fowlds ancestors, or the contemporary shearer’s lodge. This now
houses four luxury rooms each with its own stoep, ideal for lounging
in wicker chairs and watching Shamwari game across the way. Bill’s
tiny cellar pub remains an intimate forum for story-telling and a
mini-chapel rounds off the Leeuwenbosch ‘village’, constructed in time
for William Fowlds junior’s wedding.
All the family chip in to make
your stay personable and memorable.
Guided by experienced rangers in open Land Rovers, you can return to nature and explore the diverse wildlife and the rugged landscapes of the Eastern Cape Valley Bushveld. This bush experience will create memories, which will linger as long as the African sunsets and the fellowship of the campfire.
