Swellendam, Western Cape, South Africa
Klippe
Rivier - Accommodation in
Swellendam, Western Cape. During the time of the Dutch
East India tenure at the Klippe Rivier, one of the white-walled
beauties of the Cape, was built circa 1820. Klippe Rivier has fragrant
herb and vegetable gardens and a small orchard. Candle-lit, silver
service country cuisine dinners are served with coffee, friandises and
a frog serenade to end the evening. The original waenhuis and stables
have been converted into six spacious and luxurious en suite bedrooms,
all with wonderful mountain views, and some have fireplaces. A
charming thatched cottage, decorated with African flair, is perfect
for honeymooners.

Each
of the bedrooms at Klippe Rivier has been named after previous owners.
The original "Waenhuis" and stables have been converted into
six luxury bedrooms preserving much of the original ambience. Downstairs,
three spacious bedrooms each have an open fireplace, dressing room and
generous en-suite bathroom with separate shower and toilet. Three loft
rooms upstairs are under thatch, offer mountain views and have private
balconies. A secluded cottage is for the more romantic, with its own
fireplace and private garden. All bedrooms are air-conditioned. Relax at
the salt water swimming pool and enjoy the company of owls in the oaks.
Play a game of croquet.
On
the outskirts of Swellendam, you will find the Marloth Nature Reserve,
which covers a part of the Langeberg Mountain area. There are beautiful
walking trails and mountain bike trails in the Park. Take a short walk or
experience a trail of several days. The Swellendam Walking Trail is 74
kilometres long. The Swellendam golfcourse
is nested at the feet of the Langeberg mountains. The almost private
golfcourse offers just 9 holes, but the also experienced golfer would
like the course. A none-affilated fee of R 80 (2005), almost no waiting /
reservation times makes the course very attractive. You
can also explore the surroundings by canoe. There are canoe routes on the
Breede River and the Buffeljags River, 9 km from Swellendam. There
are several horse riding trails (short trails or trails for several days)
through the beautiful surroundings of Swellendam. For non-experienced, as
well as for professional horse riders.
