The house sits at the stern of the imaginary boat atop a plateau that drops away on three sides affording long and spectacular views across the lowveld Letsitele Valley to the Drakensberg escarpment. As morning mist clears you’ll think you’re on the roof of Africa. Decorated in the style of an English colonial homestead, rooms are full of antiques and feel homely - all with open fireplaces in their sitting rooms. You will eat well here too, by the way. Tana’s cordon bleu cooking is delicious. From Kings Walden you can drive or hike in mountains or forests, visit waterfalls, go boating and fishing on dams, play golf or tennis. And it’s one hour to the Kruger National Park.

Many guests prefer to venture no further than their private lounge with its own fine fireplace where crackling logs enliven mysterious misty mornings. Or they may wander through the extensive Kings Walden gardens with acres of Agapanthus and St Joseph lilies, rolling lawns, lavender walks, a mirrored rose garden, water features, fountains and ornamental ponds. Sunny days can be spent around the extravagant1y large swimming pool fed by a mountain spring.
