King's
Grant Country Retreat - Accommodation in
Ixopo, KwaZulu-Natal, originally established as a mission
station for the German Trappist Monk, has been tastefully restored and
decorated, salvaging its authentic charm while introducing the luxuries
of today's living. The majestic red brick buildings tower over indigenous
garden splendour and are complimented by the little stream winding its
way through the valley. Established over 100 years ago, King's Grant
breathes a unique sense of peace and tranquillity, where one is able to
take a step back in time and enjoy a well-earned break from the daily
rush of life.

The
original living quarters of the German and Dutch sisters and brothers who
lived here have been stylishly restored and converted into comfortable
B&B and self-catering accommodation. We can currently accommodate up
to 16 guests. King’s Grant assures you of an intimate and cosy
experience that will make you want to return. The Kings Room is our
luxurious honeymoon suite. Originally the monks’ lounge, this spacious
rondavel is sumptuously decorated in rich tones, and boasts a
free-standing bath half concealed behind romantic drapes.
For
keen birders, King’s Grant is a certified birder-friendly establishment
and boasts a recorded number of over 208 different species of birdlife,
including the endangered blue swallow. The dams and wetlands, bushveld,
mountain sourveld and farmland provide a rich variety of habitats, which
explains the large number of species. They have 3 large dams on site and
offer activities such as Canadian canoeing, fishing (Bass, Barbell, and
Carp) and sailing. Canadian canoes are available for hire. They encourage
the guests to explore the estate and offer a number of walks and mountain
biking opportunities with breathtaking views and hidden estate
attractions. Picnic Baskets, Sundowners and Braai Packs can be arranged
for those wanting to expand on their outdoor experience. Sites such as
the deserted Brickfield and Shriba’s Hill viewpoint make an
unforgettable and picturesque experience.
