Ironwood Lodge - Accommodation
at the South Coast from
KwaZulu-Natal
Ironwood
Lodge is an Accommodation at the South Coast from KwaZulu-Natal.
As
you parked your car below the garden and
walked up the steps (old ironwood railway sleepers) to the
Ironwood Lodge,
you might meet a barefoot
man lightly sprinkled with dust, who introduce himself as Jim. Jim
had taken advantage of a few precious moments of guestlessness to
finish making a set of chairs. It turns out
that Jim is one of those polymath South Africans with umpteen strings
to his bow. He has been in turn a fisherman, geography teacher and
cabinet maker.

He
does most things around Ironwood Lodge himself, from picking mussels
off the beach and cooking them (or if not mussels then other fresh
seafood). to building irrigation
channels taking rainwater to his veggies, and making the furniture for
the terrace. This is generally where meals are served, often by Jim
and Caron’s two children, Clinton and Warren, who clearly enjoy taking
turns as head waiter. “Ironwood has a garden of Eden… except you can
pick the fruit and you don’t get thrown out!” wrote one guest, and Jim
likes guests to enjoy the fruits of his labour (you’ll get masses at
breakfast). The six large, spacious bedrooms share the sea-view and
come with their own garden or terrace upstairs. The beach is just over
the road and golf courses proliferate in the area. A very relaxed
vibe.

important then the Ironwood Lodge is worth a second look.
