There
are five other cottages set around a central courtyard next to the
main farmstead. Although self-contained visitors may opt for breakfast
and other meals on request. Honeywood Farm and the adjacent
Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve is highly rated by Birding Africa as
an ideal spot for bird watching. Situated less than a kilometer from
the forest, it allows for early morning access and viewing. Look out
for Forest Buzzard and Crowned Eagle as well as Greater and Lesser
Honeyguides which are attracted by the bee-keeping activities on the
farm. Greater Double-collared Sunbird and Forest Cannery are found in
the cottage gardens.
Apart
from the pleasure of staying on a large farm, guests have access to a
variety of activities: horseriding, a circular mountain bike trail,
various hiking trails and the splendour of Honeywood's neighbour, the
beautiful Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve. Grootvadersbosch Nature
Reserve, it will be hard to forget the endearing presence of this
protected area.The dominant vegetation types are mountain fynbos and
indigenous forest. The 250ha forested area is the biggest patch of
indigenous afromontane forest found west of the well-known Knysna
forest. Yellowwood, stinkwood, ironwood and Cape beechwood are among
the 46 indigenous tree species that occur in the forest.
