Hoekie means 'little corner' in Afrikaans and there are indeed many nooks and crannies bout Hoekie where one can relax in the sun; a wooden chaise-longue built from beach-flotsam by the pool, an upstairs courtyard between two gabled bedrooms, and a chunky wooden picnic table on the verandah which enjoys the view. And what a view! One can see over the quiet lane and out to a wide golden beach and ocean beyond.Back inside, the creative hand has not been stayed and those of us who don't mind a lick of luxury won't feel out of place either. The sitting room is decorated in earthy tones, a high, open-plan space that connects to a swish kitchen and a glass-roofed dining room; there's a boat prow upon the wall and Volker's exquisite miniature schooner and a hand-made staircase.

This picturesque little fishing village is one of the oldest towns on the West Coast with a very strong fisherman architecture. Spoil yourself and stroll along this 8 km stretch of unspoiled white sandy beach and feel, see and smell the gem of the ocean and quaint white cottages offering a tranquil haven for visitors from all over the world.
