The
stones shelter a wonderland of stunted yellowwood trees and aloes
which lead to the second highest falls in Mpumalanga, Brides Leap
Falls, a painting of which, by Bertha Everard, hangs in the South
African Houses of Parliament. You
can come here to fish trout, ride horses and stretch those legs or
simply recline under the pergola next to the pool. Francis has
renovated the house beautifully. He is an artist by profession and his
aesthetic ‘eye’ never sleeps! There are tambooti wood surfaces in the
kitchen, grey slate floors in the kitchen and bathrooms, while
original Oregon pine floorboards deck the light-filled, open-plan
lounge.
Francis’s
oil paintings hang on the walls and you will
particularly admired the green granite chopping-board cut from the
stones outside. The house feels like a real home with its vast library
of books and National Geographics, satellite TV and laid-back
atmosphere. Breathe in the fresh mountain air and relax.
This is a very private and isolated estate which offers an
exclusive retreat from the world.
