Fig Tree Cottage - Accommodation in
Kloof, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
A
game lodge in the bushveld? Almost! With three stone and thatch double
storied dwellings - one of them a rondavel and the other two
resembling small game lodges complete with veld and indigenous bush,
marula trees, monkeys, the occasional buck and the nightjar calling at
dusk. In fact Fig Tree Cottage is a bird watcher's paradise. An East
African colonial home? It could be - with faded sepia photographs of
Arab dhows and tented safari camps reflecting a bygone era; dark
wooden blinds and white muslin curtains; mosquito nets and Zanzibari
style antique furniture.

The
rondavel has an African / Zulu atmosphere with Swazi mats on the
quarry tiled floor and comfortable beds under the cool thatch
upstairs. It is set at the end of a large lawn next to a rose garden.
Our two other luxurious units have their own parking area nearby and
entry is past a swimming pool with a pool deck at the front doors,
private balconies off the en suite bedrooms, private view decks and
open plan kitchenettes off the living rooms.
All
three cottages have an outstanding view to the coast. In the distance the
lights of Durban and its suburbs twinkle like stars at night and by day
the Indian Ocean is a splash of blue on the eastern horizon. We will
provide our guests with a breakfast of their choice, such as fresh fruit
(often from our own garden), and fruit juice, yoghurt, hot scones
straight from the oven, served with butter, home-made preserves and
cheese. In spite of the peace and quiet, an excellent highway only
moments away links us to Pinetown (5 minutes) and Durban (20 minutes).
The beautiful valley of a Thousand Hills with its scenic splendour and
tribal life is only 15 minutes away. You will also find excellent
restaurants, a gym and a golf course nearby. Fig Tree is ideally suited
to holidaymakers, honeymooners and business people.
