D’Ouwe
Werf has 3 room types spread over 5 buildings. The rooms either overlook
the beautiful landscaped courtyard and garden, or Church Street. All
rooms have airconditioning, tea/coffee-making facilities, hairdryer,
M-Net, fridges and fully appointed bathrooms. Each category has both
double and twin rooms. Superior rooms. There are 14 spread over 3
buildings, with 6 being furnished in Georgian or Victorian style and 6 in
a traditional Cape style. The superior rooms are larger than the rest and
all have separate showers and baths, except for 2 junior suites situated
in the historic building. The newer 6 rooms in the villa also have
separate walk-in dressing rooms. Luxury rooms. These are all situated in
the original building (1802). They are also large rooms furnished with
antiques and decorated and styled individually.
The main difference between the Luxury and Superior is the size of the
bathrooms. The Luxury rooms all have bath/shower combinations. The style
of furniture is Georgian or Victorian. Classic rooms. These are slightly
smaller than the rest and again have bath/shower combinations. These
rooms are furnished with reproduction pieces but each has its own
personal character.
The
"1802 Restaurant" is renowned for its traditional and
international cuisine and boasts a wine list that will satisfy even
the most sophisticated connoisseur. On sunny days, sit outside in the
vine-covered coffee garden, and enjoy a slice of cheesecake so good,
it is held to be the best in town. A myriad shops, museums, art
galleries and beautiful examples of Cape Dutch architecture are within
easy walking distance of the hotel. Guests can sit back and sip
sundowners in the tranquillity of a lovely verdant garden, or enjoy a
dip in the heated swim-ming pool while others bask in the sun on the
wooden deck or patio.
And for all those who feel a bit more energetic, there are superb golf
courses in close proximity to the town, guided historical village
walks, wine tours and a variety of other activities that can be
arranged from the hotel.
