Die Gat Guest House, a farmstead and historic monument, is situated in the valley of Middelplaas
, near De Rust. It has been in the hands of numerous generations of the Schoeman family since the early 1800s.
Characteristics of the old homestead, such as the paint of German origin on the interior walls of the
voorkamer (lounge), theoriginal architectural form of the house and the picturesque environment have ensured that many a South African film has been shot here.

The guest rooms in the outbuildings, previously the school where the Schoeman children were educated, the cart-shed turned winepress, or even an ox wagon used by earlier generations, have been suitably furnished to give you a unique experience of the outdoors.
The tranquility and peacefulness of Die Gat ensures an unforgettable
sleep. You can even sleep with doors wide open so as not to miss the
grumbling of ostriches. After a special breakfast in the garden of Eden,
for which Die Gat is renowned, an unforgettable experience in the wild
awaits you.
The
circular drive through Meiringspoort, along the Swartberg Pass and on
to the Kango Caves brings you in contact with some of the most
majestic natural wonders ever to be seen. A visit to the farm and the
daily routine, where you get to know the ostrich with its fatal kick,
and a visit to the labourers and their families ensure that you get to
know the people and life on a typical Klein Karoo farm. You can also
relax at the special pool of Die Gat, with its beautiful view of the
majestic surroundings. Safaris on an open Land Rover with Anton as
your tour guide may well be the utmost experience for the adventurous,
with a braai in the veld and ice cold beer or wine as part of the 5 to
6 hours long excursion into the unspoilt nature.
