Comfrey Cottage Accommodation in
Lady Gray, Eastern Cape. Offers a spectacular
views, passes and geological formations sculpted by volcanic action,
such are the Witteberg Mountains on the Maloti route. This is not
known as the most scenic route in SA for nothing! Glancing out over
magnificent mountains, windy roads. Hospitality
here rules ok. The three G’s have recently renovated their
hundred-year-old cottages into high-comfort Porcupine’s Place, with
its wooden floors and French doors onto the garden;

Comfrey
Cottage, with its Queen Ann coal fire, old retro fridge and
pink-and-green stove; Robin’s Nest, with its wrap-around balcony and
benches on the verandah; Apple Crumble, still to come; and the
newly-built, smart-yet-relaxed lounge and dining room. The garden is
filled with fifteen different species of fruit trees - pears, figs and
walnuts amongst others - and someone was swinging in a hammock
contemplating the mountain.
Mountain rambles, bird-watching, visiting the art academy and George’s
geological tours are favourite activities here. There are unique
geological features and alpine flowers at the south-western edge of
the Drakensberg and they merit an explanation. What’s more,
Tiffindell, the only ski resort in SA, is nearby, so be prepared for
breathtaking snow-capped mountains come winter.
