Meander and the Drakensberg Regions with
charming cottages, situated in the heart of the quaint village of
Hilton, which is nestled in the hills above Pietermaritzburg. A warm
welcome awaits the guests from your hosts, John and Lynne.
The thatched cottages are situated in the attractive,
tranquil garden of the main homestead which overlooks the swimming
pool. Rose Cottage, Bramble Cottage and Briar Cottage offer
comfortable accommodation with private areas to sit outdoors. If you
look carefully you may find gnomes in the secret garden!! All the beds
have electric warming blankets for those cold winter nights.

Rose
and Bramble Cottages are self-catering. Guests also have the option of
a healthy breakfast served on a tray in the cottage or a 'self-cook'
breakfast where they supply the food and you cook it at your leisure.
Alternatively a Full English Breakfast can be served in the main
homestead by special request. Summertime in
Hilton is pleasant with the occasional summer thunderstorms. The winter day's are warm and dry, but can turn cold at night. The spring
rains start in late September bringing out the luscious vegetation of
the area and this is the time when some of the beautiful gardens are
open to the public.
Hilton has two small
shopping centres and various restaurants nearby where you can wine and
dine. You will also find a railway museum and vintage steam trains at
the historic Hilton Station.This accommodation is an members of the Midlands Meander,
the well known arts and crafts route. From Hilton you can plan a
circular trip to explore this fascinating area. The majestic
Drakensberg Mountains can be seen from there and are especially
beautiful when covered in snow. Historic Pietermaritzburg and Howick
are only a 15 minute drive away and the coastal city of Durban a one
hour journey. Midmar Dam is also nearby and offers yachting, fishing
and bird watching.
