The town is one of the ten oldest in South Africa and rich in cultural and historical heritage: the restored Dutch Reformed church where the annual wild flower exhibition is held; the old drostdy and prison; the Strassberger shoe factory; the Rooibos tea factory; the Ramskop wild flower reserve and the Kunshuis (art gallery). Every year Clanwilliam shares in the display of wild flowers in spring time, when the land becomes one under a mantle of brilliant colours. It is furthermore part of the "fynbos" area and home to the Clanwilliam cedar and Snow protea.
