Aquila Private Game Reserve - Accommodation

The
prestigious 4 star, malaria free, Aquila Private Game Reserve stands
in an area of 4,500 hectares of Southern Karoo
Highlands encapsulating breathtaking majestic mountains, rivers, valleys
and kloofs. It is home to Cape Town's closest Rhino and Giraffes and
was proclaimed a private nature reserve in 1985. Aquila is the closest
Private Game Reserve to Cape
Town, a mere 90 minutes from the City Centre on the N1 National
Road. Aquila is named after the rare and endangered Black Eagle that
thrives in the area. Aquila is situated on the national flower route
and has several hectare of Mountain Protea. The land can be divided
into three separate biomes - fynbos, renosterveldt and succulent Karoo.
From July through September the Reserve displays a splendid technicolor
carpet of Karoo flowers.

Guests
have different options of accommodation at Aquila. All our cottages are
designed in a unique eco-country style. Raw materials such as rock, river
pebbles, natural wood, reeds and thatch have been used wherever possible
to maintain a natural look. Each cottage has its own private patio and
braai area. The premier eco-friendly cottages are all equipped with air
conditioning, unique rock bathrooms and outdoor rock showers.
Fly
In Safari: Experience a 30 minute flight through the Winelands and magnificent
Hex River
Valley Mountains. On your return fly over Robben
Island and the V&A Waterfront. Day Trip Safari: Depart
for a 2-3 hour game drive in 4x4 safari vehicles with experienced game
rangers. Visit our renowned San Bushman rock art sites. Return to the
lodge for lunch in our restaurant or African Boma. Browse through our
African curio shop. We also offer one-day Horseback Safaris and Quad
Bike Safaris. They are the same as the day trip, but you may supplement
the game drive with either a horseback safari or a quad bike safari.
Game at Aquila includes rhino, giraffe, zebra, lion, buffalo, crocodile,
black and blue wildebeest, red hartebeest, eland, springbok, blesbok,
ostrich, gemsbok and other indigenous game. Aquila and its huge natural
wetland is home to 172 species of birds and is also home to several
breeding pairs of the rare and endangered Black Eagle, after which the
reserve has been named.
