Museum, in a quiet environs with a lovely, cosy swimming-pool area,
beautiful gardens and spectacular mountain views. Enjoy
the atmosphere of your bed & breakfast, laying in a sun-coach near
the swimmingpool or the sun-deck, with a cool glass of South African
wine. Enjoy your dinner at the Connection Restaurant (opposite your
b&b) or the other three restaurants on walking distance.

Shades Guesthouse offers four funky, modern, spacious en-suite rooms with
excellent 2 mtr. lenght twinbeds and pure cotton linen. Our honeymoonroom
has a kingsize bed. The family cottage can accommodate maximum 4 persons.
All rooms are decorated with flair and an African touch, with very
unusual and highly attractive ornamental fixtures and fittings. The
bathrooms have modern showers with high quality mixer-taps and removable
shower heads and high water presure. bathroom with
toilet and shower, two of the rooms having a bathroom with shower and
bath, sitting corner, tv, fridge, hairdryer, fan/heater, coffee and tea
making facilities, private entrance and terrace.
There
are various Nature Parks in the surroundings of our Guesthouse with
an abundance of animal-life and vegetation. Bontebok
National Park is 7 kilometres near town. The Park is home to Bontebok
antelopes and other buck species, red hartebeests and Cape Mountain
zebras. Among the several bird species are the secretary bird and the
blue crane. Bontebok Park has about 470 kinds of plant species. Grootvadersbosch
and Boosmansbos Nature Reserve are also worth a visit. On
the outskirts of Swellendam,
you will find the Marloth Nature Reserve, which covers a part of the
Langeberg Mountain area. There are beautiful walking trails and mountain
bike trails in the Park. Take a short walk or experience a trail of
several days. The Swellendam Walking Trail is 74 kilometres long. The
Swellendam golfcourse is nested at the feet of the Langeberg mountains.
The almost private golfcourse offers just 9 holes, but the also experienced
golfer would like the course. A none-affilated fee of R 80 (2005), almost
no waiting / reservation times makes the course very attractive. You
can also explore the surroundings by canoe. There are canoe routes on
the Breede River and the Buffeljags River, 9 km from Swellendam. There
are several horse riding trails (short trails or trails for several
days) through the beautiful surroundings of Swellendam. For non-experienced,
as well as for professional horse riders.
