Location: South Africa » Free State » Eastern Free State » Edenburg

Edenburg, 83 km southwest of Bloemfontein, is situated along one of the country’s busiest national roads. The town was established in 1862, with the purchase of the farm Rietfontein, and received municipal status in 1891. Some believe that the town was named for the biblical Garden of Eden, while others insist that it is an Afrikaans version of the Scottish Edinburgh.
