Location: South Africa » North West

Deep in the heart of the North West Province, surrounded by untamed African bush, lies the Sun City Casino Resort and The Lost City – proclaimed as one of the most thrilling and 'dramatically' different tourist attractions in the world.

The Sun City Casino Resort and Hotel rises out of the hills of Pilanesberg, overlooking a magnificent landscape of subtropical gardens, sparkling swimming pools and a huge man made lake. It is a jet set playground, which not only caters for the millionaire sportsman and gourmet, but also for everyone in search of lively family entertainment and perhaps a fling at the tables or slots. It has one of the finest pool terraces in the world, where one can enjoy a refreshing cocktail as you soak up the sun.

Sun City has one of the largest casinos in the world outside America, offering blackjack, American roulette, punto banco and craps. At night, Sun City Hotel explores with shows like the Extravaganza, a sensational production which could have come straight from the theatres of Paris or Las Vegas. Pulsating music, spectacular sets and high-kicking dancers in glorious costumes transport you into a world of fantasy. The massive foyer of the hotel rings with the constant sound of dozens of slot machines, some of which offer the ultimate Dream Machine prize which could run into millions. And next to the foyer, a lane of exclusive shops and boutiques completes the picture of an international playground.

A right royal welcome awaits guests at The Palace of The Lost City at Sun City. This is one of the finest hotels in the world, where guests are treated in a style and luxury unique in Africa. The architecture and richly accented décor are like no other in the world, for it's lavish, custom-made furnishings are complemented by unique paintings, sculptures, mosaics and other art. Faux stone columns of bamboo rest on elephant's feet, while painted leopards peer through the foliage above the hand-carved chairs and magnificently laid tables in the Ville del Palazzo, and sweeping staircases of crystal and marble descend into the lofty Crystal Court Restaurant. The cuisine, needless to say, is equally splendid.

The Lost City is a fantasy world conjured out of the myths and legends of Africa. Set in 25 ha of mysterious jungle, where orchids cling to treetops and intriguing paths winds between tumbling streams, waterfalls and lakes, is the Valley of the Waves – a water adventure-world for young and old. Take a ride down the Lazy River, surf the waves in the wavepool or soak up the sun on the palm-fringed, white sand beach.

Sun City is a sportsman's paradise and boasts excellent sport facilities, including the Gary Player Country Club – a spectacular spread of fairways and greens carved out of the rugged Pilanesberg Bushveld, and the new Lost City Golf Course, complete with driving range, a halfway house for thirsty golfers and four of the most spectacular par- 3 holes in the world. Apart from the two Gary Player championship golf courses, there are twelve tennis courts, three squash courts, a bowling green, ten pin bowling alley, volley ball and several swimming pools.

At Waterworld one can enjoy just about any watersport imaginable. The more adventurous can soar high over this incredible man-made lake on a parasail, or skim across the water on a boardsailer, watersnake, jetski, wetbike or on waterskis. For those who simply want to enjoy the scenery, a quiet trip across the lake in a sailboat or pedalo provides ample time to admire the lush, yet rugged beauty of the surrounding hills.

Sun City is just an hour and a half by car from Johannesbur. In addition to a regular bus service which connects the two centres, daily flights operate between the airport at Sun City and major centres throughout southern Africa. International exchange facilities and banks are available.
