DescriptionThe resorts of Doonside and Warner Beach lie just south of Amanzimtoti on the Kwa-Zulu Natal South Coast. Situated on opposite sides of the Little Manzimitoti River the towns share a protected swimming area near the river mouth. A magnificent Tidal Pool nestles in the rocks next to the lagoon. The pool is washed by the tide twice a day and the sea life in the pool is a young divers dream. The bottom of the pool is sand so painful cuts are avoided. The name Doonside originated when a railway siding was built close to a house named Lorna Doone, after the heroine of the famous novel by R. D. Blackmore. Doonside Holiday Flats faces southwards and overlooks the Little Manzimtoti river lagoon and Warnerdoone beach to the south. Foliage on the river banks of the lagoon provides an abundance of bird life and shield the flats from the south-easterly winds. The beach is a short walk of sixty metres from the Flats and is perfect for all types of beach and watersports. The shark nets are maintained by the Natal Sharks Board and we regularly host surfing and life saver championship competitions on the beach. Baggies Restaurant overlooks the beach and they sell Hamburgers, Toasted Sandwiches, Cool Drinks, Milkshakes etc. Because of the restaurant this beach is slowly becoming known as Baggies Beach. Members of Warner Beach Ski Boat Club launch their boats from the beach near the rocks. Some of the skippers conduct fishing charters for a nominal fee and a good catch is normally guaranteed. Fishing from the rocks and the beach is very popular with the locals and tourists alike and some large fish have been caught in this area. A very well equipped fishing tackle shop is located near Baggies Restaurant. Doonside Holiday Flats has become well known and sought after by many visitors from all over South Africa and indeed the World. We do our best to keep our rates reasonable while providing a high degree of service and home from home living. The area is peaceful and the flats are well suited to family groups and business people alike. Each Apartment sleeps up to four adults and two children and consists of two bedrooms, a bathroom with shower facility, a large lounge/dining section, and a very well equipped kitchen to cater for up to six people. Cutlery includes everything you would normally need to wine and dine your family in style. We also supply cups and plates, etc for small children. The bedrooms are carpeted and equipped with high quality beds and fresh linen. The 5th and 6th beds are located in the lounge section. (Note that these are beds and not sleeper couches). Should you wish to invite your friends and family to join you for a Braai then the Braai area is large, private and comfortable, it is also nicely sheltered from the wind by large trees and shrubbery. We also private outside showers for our guests to wash off the beach sand and salt water when coming off the beach. DirectionsFrom the N3 Durban / Jhb Highway. Pass through the Marion Hill Toll Plaza, this is the last Toll Plaza to Durban. Immediately after the Pavilion Shopping Centre, take the N-2 South Coast Offramp. Pass Durban International Airport. Pass Amanzimtoti and go over the Amanzimtoti River bridge. At the top of the hill, take the Seadoone off-ramp (No 137). At the Robots, turn Left into Seadoone Road. At the next Robots turn Left into Beachway Road. Go over the Railway Line Bridge to the T-junction. Turn Right at the T-junction. Follow the road around towards the Beach. After the sharp left turn the flats are on the left. Pass the flats and turn Left into Lagoon Road. And then Immediate Left again into the driveway of the flats. (The Entrance to the flats is in Lagoon Road).RatesAs with most places our rates are based on “supply and demand” and the number of people in your group. Our lowest rate is R300.00 per flat per night for 2 people out of season and we go up to a maximum of R1,400.00 per flat during peak seasons. We always send a written Quotation to our guests so that you are aware of everything you are being offered. We pride ourselves in not having any hidden charges or deposits, what is on your Quotation you is what you pay — no more. Our Laundry Services are contracted out to a professional laundry service provider and are charged for when used. |
