Description

Whatever your reason to visit Vryheid, business or tourism, Villa Prince Imperial is there to welcome you.

At the foot of Lancaster Hill, set in a one acre landscaped garden, Villa Prince Imperial accommodates 17 guests in true luxury.

The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa awarded us 3 stars. Our eight comfortable bedrooms are elegantly furnished and decorated with the painting of local artists. All rooms have private bathrooms with showers or baths and a range of luxury guest amenities, including in room tea & coffee trays, television, hair dryers, safe etc.

Our breakfast room is situated right in the middle of the garden and our buffet offers a wide range of delicacies to start the day on a strong footing. The sparkling pool, surrounded by a beautifully landscaped garden, entices you to swim or to sun tan on the large sundeck where comfortable armchairs await you. The garden is a perfect playground for the children.

At sunset, enjoy a drink from our honesty bar, play frantic games of billiards with your friends or kids, or keep up to date with the sports and international news watching DSTV in English or in French in the lounge. You can walk safely to one of the restaurants at a walking distance and get back any time as your remote control gives you 24 hours access to our premises.

You can then sleep quietly as your car is safely parked on the property under carports. If you have time, why not shop at the local arts and crafts stores, do an historical walkabout in town, visit our nice Nature reserve, play golf, go fishing, or take a full day excursion to the battlefields of the area or to the beautiful game reserves near by?

Our clients come from different backgrounds: Businessmen, Government’s officials, lawyers, contractors, tourists even celebrities… But, for us, at Villa Prince Imperial, all our guests are VIP’S!

The town of Vryheid is centrally situated in northern KwaZulu-Natal, 320km from Durban, 420km from Johannesburg, 400km from the Kruger National Park, 160 km from Swaziland and 180 km from the Drakensberg by excellent roads. View Directions.

The town was established in 1884 and thrived because large deposits of coal were exploited in the area.

But today, Vryheid is a charming, clean and safe country town, with some 70,000 inhabitants which relies more on cattle ranching, timber plantations and maize. Vryheid is a hub for the area and schools, churches, supermarkets, shops, garages, doctors and banks are numerous. All the state’s departments have an office in town which hosts a hospital, court, golf course, airport etc. Vryheid always remember the travellers of an oasis after on a long day travelling. It is a green city with beautiful streets lined by jacarandas lying comfortably at the foot of gentle hills. Nature is on our doorstep as the Nature reserve borders the town in the north while the golf course forms the south boundary. The climate is one of the best in South Africa.

Three dams surround the town and provide the fishermen with many opportunities to practice angling and some very important wetlands are close by for the pleasure of the birds and the birdwatchers. Vryheid is part of the Battlefields area where major battles with far-reaching consequences were fought between the Voortrekkers and the Zulus ( Blood River ), the British and the Zulus ( Hlobane, Kambula, Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift,) and finally between the Boers and the British ( Lancaster Hill ).

Vryheid produced many sons of distinction like General Louis Botha, who became Prime Minister of the Union in 1910. The Prince Imperial of France was killed by the Zulus in the vicinity during the Anglo-Zulu war.

Accommodation

Let us tell you the story of this traveller who came to us for our guesthouse and said he was not fussy.

He wanted just a bed to sleep, a good shower and a hot breakfast.

Just a bed!

At Villa Prince Imperial you will enjoy excellent beds and our guests are often caught oversleeping! But it is not all. Our rooms are like you. They have names. They also have their personality. Each is different even if they all offer the same high level of comfort: Thick carpets, beautiful furniture, air-conditioners, dstv & m-net and original paintings from local artists.

Our Louis Napoleon Suite satisfy the most difficult clients: As you enter the suite a cosy lounge is there to let you welcome friends or have a small meeting. In the room itself nothing has been spared for your comfort: Courtesy gowns and slippers are at your disposal and the huge bathroom with an oval bath, a basin for him and a basin for her invites you to relax.
Your private terrace overlooks the garden and it is a pleasure to enjoy a sundowner here.

Just a good shower!

All our rooms offer you the privilege of a good shower. You could even change your mind and book one with a bath with an overhead shower! Complimentary luxury bathroom amenities are at hand. Your room is equipped with a tea and coffee machine to enjoy an early morning hot drink. You can watch television with dstv and m-net from the comfort of your bed. Air-conditioners in keep at all time your room cosy. Hairdryers, European plugs, a safe, iron & ironingboard and information on Vryheid and the area are at your disposal in your room. We can also do laundry for you.

Facilities

Breakfast Room
In the centre of the garden, our breakfast room is the place to enjoy scrumptious full English buffet breakfasts either in the room itself furnished Italian style or on the sunny outside tables overlooking the garden.
Garden

Our garden is a great place for children who will find different games to play on the children's playground and if, by any chance, they get dirty we offer a laundry service! The older ones may enjoy a game of pétanque, this ever popular French bowls game. It is a paradise for the many species of birds recorded in the area and your pets will also appreciate to stretch their legs.

Swimming Pool

Our eight meters long sparkling swimming pool calls upon you to cool down and the sundeck armchairs invite you to lay down for a well deserved sun tanning exercise! For those who fear the strength of the African sun, our pool house is there to offer you the protection of its shade. We offer a range of facilities.

Days can be spent reading a book from our library by our sparkling pool, lazily sunbathing in the garden, playing pétanque (a popular French game of balls) or a round of golf at the golf course nearby, or walking in the Vryheid game reserve in the company of zebras and antelopes. The Museum is also worth a visit: It was originally the siege of the government of the short lived New Republic and illustrates the attempts made by the Boers to establish independent states and explains the reasons for their failure. Established in Lucas Meyer House which was the abode of the President, it gives a good idea of the standard of living of an upper-class family at the end of the 19th century.

When the sun sets, it is time to watch some sport or tune to CNN on our satellite TV in the main lounge, to sip a drink from our honesty bar, to show your mettle on the billiards table, or to watch programs in different languages on the TV in the lounge, before walking safely to one of the restaurants close by. After a good dinner in town, you can come back and your remote control gives you access to our safe parking 24 hours a day. Your car is safely parked under protective carports. Have, on the house, a hot beverage from our coffee corner or a glass of sherry from our butler’s tray before retiring to your room for a good night sleep.

If you come with a private plane, Vryheid has a modern airport and we can pick you up there as soon as you arrive.

Our service has brought us many appreciative comments from travel guides such as Lonely Planet, The Rough Guide, Arthaud, Le Petit Futé and Le Routard.

Nous parlons français.
