Experience the hidden fascinating valley first hand where a small proud community lived in isolation for more than 100 years. Access was only on foot or horseback, and harvests of dried fruit and wild honey were carried out by pack animals. Fortunately a road was carved into the valley in 1962. Two hours of scenic driving let you enter the valley with Elands Pass , dropping nearly 1000m to the valley. Gamkaskloof , now a nature reserve, is approximately 20 km long and 600 meters wide. This diverse countryside teems with troop of baboons and over 100 species of birds. Leopards still roam the mountains while Dassies, Kudu's, Klipspringers and various other buck are still found in the Valley. Guests described this trip as the highlight of their visit to Route 62 and the Garden Route. The unforgettable experience takes up more than one day, which will convince you to visit us again and again. |
