The winter temperatures in Golden Gate can plummet to a mere -9 to -15 degrees C and that snow is a regular occurrence in the park. Golden Gate primarily falls in a summer rainfall area (Sept to April) and the annual rainfall is approximately 760 mm per year. In very wet years this figure can rise to 1250 mm. DirectionsTravel / How to get there Equidistant from Johannesburg, Durban and Bloemfontein. Easily accessible via excellent tarred road. Public road runs through the park. Roads in the park are tarred. From Johannesburg: Take the N3 to Villiers. Go through one toll gate. Continue past the Villiers/ Vereeniging turn-off, cross the Vaal River. .Soon after the Engen One Stop, turn off at the Villiers/Frankfort off ramp (±47 km from the first toll gate) Note: if you go through a second toll gate, you have gone too far! Turn right at the top of the off-ramp and cross over the highway towards Frankfort (R26) 30 kms from turn-off turn right at the T-Junction (R26) 7 kms from T-Junction turn left at Reitz/Bethlehem direction sign (still R26). 58 kms from turn, you by-pass Reitz en route to Bethlehem. 53 kms from Reitz, you reach Bethlehem. Continue straight through Bethlehem, past Wimpy, Mr Price, etc. 7 kms from Bethlehem, turn right towards Clarens. From Clarens take the R712 to Puthaditjaba. Travel 22kms to the Golden Gate National Park. From Durban Take the N3 towards Harrismith. Just after the Estcourt North Off ramp, see the Shell Ultra city and take exit 194. Turn left to Winterton/Bergville onto the R74. Travel through Winterton and Bergville, up the Oliviershoek pass Pass Sterkfontein Dam on the Left. Turn left onto the R712, see "Puthaditjaba" signs. Travel 33km, pass the Puthaditjaba turn off and continue on the R712 for a further 56km to Golden Gate National Park. From Bloemfontein: Take the N5 to Bethlehem. Continue straight through Bethlehem, past Wimpy, Mr Price, etc. Continue on the N5 towards Harrismith/Kestell. 7 kms from Bethlehem, turn right towards Clarens. From Clarens take the R712 to Puthaditjaba. Travel 22kms to the Golden Gate National Park.
